Rotunda Bar and Restaurant launches Botanical Gin Garden by the Water

Green & Fortune’s summer dining and drinking destination in King’s Cross

Rotunda Bar and Restaurant in King’s Cross has transformed its outdoor terrace on the edge of Regent’s Canal into a ‘Botanical Gin Garden’ this summer, in partnership with Pernod Ricard and  Monkey 47, Beefeater and Plymouth Gin.

Open from now until late September 2017, the ‘Botanical Gin Garden’ is surrounded by fresh herbs and flowers planted by local charity Global Generation. The outside bar serves a wide selection of drinks every day from 5pm and these can be enjoyed on deckchairs and sofas on the water’s edge. Rotunda’s new dedicated gin cocktail list includes ‘La Romance’ (Plymouth Gin, Cointreau, hibiscus, lime, egg white); ‘Summer Dream’ (Beefeater Gin, Aperol, sweet vermouth, orange and coriander-infused Lillet Blanc) and ‘Angel’s Share’ (Monkey 47 Gin, raspberry, elderflower liqueur, lychee, lemonade), as well as the classic gin and tonic which guests can tailor with flavoured tonics such as cucumber and watermelon. Also available is a ‘Sharing Gin Martini’ for two, served in a Kilner jar with ice, olives and lemon.

Another highlight is the £25 ‘Botanical Gin Tasting Flight’ which offer three paired gin and tonics plus one signature cocktail. Guests will be given a boarding pass which they can present at the bar each time they wish to order their next drink. Progress will be ticked off as they move through each ‘check point’.

The full Rotunda à la carte menu is available for alfresco dining at the 60-seater waterside restaurant on the terrace which is open daily for lunch and dinner when the weather allows. The new seasonal menu prepared by head chef Jason Wild, features dishes such as: Cornish crab, radish and brown crab dressing; Pan-fried sea bream, cracked wheat salad and Imam Bayildi; Quinoa, chia seed and walnut veggie burger, nettle pesto and sweet potato fries; and Prosecco and vanilla jelly with berries. Those looking for a lighter bite can order gourmet pizza on the terrace. This is now served outside every week from Tuesday – Friday, 5.30 – 8.30pm, courtesy of Rotunda’s sister company Green & Fortune Café. Pizzas are ready in 2 minutes and prices start at 6.50.

The restaurant will also be hosting three gin masterclasses in a ‘Gin Series’ this summer, one evening for each brand they have partnered with. The first supper club will take place on Monday 12th June for Plymouth, followed by Beefeater on Monday 17th July and finishing on Monday 18th September with Monkey 47. Guests will be joined for talks by the ambassadors for each gin brand who will guide them through a gin tasting while they enjoy a selection of bar bites. Tickets also include arrival G&T and a cocktail to finish, which guests will create themselves.

For more exclusive events such as summer parties, birthday celebrations and even weddings, the Private Dining Room and its terrace are versatile spaces. DIY Botanical Gin garnishing stations are available to book for just £8 per person, including fresh herb pots and a member of staff to advise on botanical pairings. This can be accompanied by bar platters or BBQ packages from £35 per person for a classic BBQ or £40 per person for a steak and lobster BBQ. Each is served with 3 sides and can be enhanced with extras such as a hog roast.

Rotunda during the summer is an idyllic, canal-side summer dining and drinking destination tucked away from the hustle and bustle of King’s Cross. The astroturfed terrace has extensive seating areas with heaters, blankets and unbeatable views, just a 5 minute walk from King’s Cross station.
