Green & Fortune donate meals to local residents

Green & Fortune has been making and donating 100 meals a week to two local charities, the London Irish Centre and the Copenhagen Street Foodbank.

Initially started to support local residents in need during the lock-down period this has now become part of the company’s charitable commitments for the foreseeable future.

The two course meals are made in the Kings Place located kitchens and distributed to residents in Camden and Islington, the recipients just need to heat the meals at the home.

The Copenhagen Street Foodbank is housed and run by the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The foodbank first opened in 2018 to serve those in the local neighbourhood struggling with food poverty. During lock-down they joined forces with the local Mutual Aid Group which deliver food to the homes of those in need, at their peak they were delivering to 110 locations.

The London Irish Centre, based in Camden works to create a hub of culture and support for London’s Irish community, with an outreach programme to provide care for those in need.  The centre also promotes Irish heritage with a programme of regular events and workshops.

Ellen Ryan, CEO of The London Irish Centre comments, “We are so grateful to our friends at Green & Fortune for the weekly contribution of 50 high quality, tasty and nutritious meals. These beautifully presented meals have been distributed to people in need and have made a huge difference to those who would struggle to access a wholesome meal weekly. John Nugent has always been a tremendous supporter of the London Irish Centre and the communities of Camden and Islington over the years  – always stepping up and making a contribution. We look forward  to continuing to work together as we go through these challenging times together.”

While it’s a challenging time for the hospitality industry, playing a role in the community has always been integral to the outlook of Green & Fortune. The company has a strong history of supporting many charitable initiatives as well as working with numerous local organisations. For example, working with King’s Cross charity Global Generation since Green & Fortune opened in 2008, being a founding member of Urban Partners and in the past holding regular events to raise funds for locally based charities such as the London Irish Centre and New Horizons.
