Marking 10 Years at Kings Place with a Major Investment in Our Future

October 2018 marks a significant milestone for Green & Fortune — 10 years since we launched alongside Kings Place. To celebrate a decade of growth, we’re investing over £1.5 million into a comprehensive renovation of our café, restaurant, bar, terrace and private event spaces within the building.

This investment is both a celebration of how far we’ve come and a statement of intent for the future. Since opening in 2008, Green & Fortune has evolved alongside Kings Place and the wider King’s Cross neighbourhood, growing into a vibrant hospitality and events business with a team of almost 190 people and annual turnover exceeding £12.5 million.

Looking Forward While Building on a Strong Foundation

Green & Fortune was created by our Founder and CEO John Nugent as part of the original Kings Place vision, encompassing Rotunda Bar & Restaurant, the Green & Fortune Café and Kings Place Events. Ten years on, the business continues to grow, adapt and invest — and this refurbishment marks the next chapter.

The renovation of all Green & Fortune spaces at Kings Place will take place over the summer, ahead of a full re-opening in time for the anniversary celebrations later in the year.

A New Chapter for Rotunda Bar & Restaurant

As part of the works, Rotunda Bar & Restaurant will close on 27 July, reopening in mid-September 2018 with a refreshed look and feel. Working alongside DesignLSM, the redesign will place even greater emphasis on two defining features: our gate-to-plate ethos and the expansive terrace overlooking Regent’s Canal.

Key changes include a new open-view kitchen relocated to the main restaurant level, a large meat-ageing cabinet, a chef’s counter and a semi-enclosed terrace space with heaters, allowing year-round use. The refurbishment will also enhance the bar, elevate the private dining space and reimagine the terrace garden, which is cared for by King’s Cross-based charity Global Generation.

Rotunda’s modern British menu will continue to centre around beef and lamb sourced from our own farm in Northumberland, with meat hung, aged and butchered on site — allowing our chefs to work creatively with a true nose-to-tail approach.

Refreshing Our Event and Café Spaces

Alongside Rotunda, the Battlebridge Room at Kings Place Events — our large canal-side event space used for conferences, weddings and celebrations — will also be restyled. Updates will include a new internal bar, a built-in dance floor and enhanced lighting options to increase flexibility for events.

The Green & Fortune Café, located in the Kings Place atrium, will close for three weeks from 17 August for refurbishment, with the redesign overseen by Linda Turner of Inature, who is leading the wider project.

A Moment to Reflect — and Look Ahead

Reflecting on the anniversary, John Nugent said:

“Ten years into any business is a time for reflection and future planning. We launched in 2008 against a challenging backdrop — a recession, a part of London still emerging from its past and a hospitality proposition not previously seen in King’s Cross. Today, we look forward to continuing to grow the business.

All our spaces at Kings Place will be transformed, with new menus and well-crafted drinks as we continue to deliver great hospitality.”

When Kings Place was first conceived, the area around King’s Cross and St Pancras was viewed by many as a risk. A decade on, the vision for a cultural and creative hub has been realised — and we’re proud to have been a partner in that journey from the very beginning.

Looking Ahead to the Next Decade

As we prepare to reopen our transformed spaces later this summer, we’re excited to share more details on the new designs, menus and bar offerings in the coming months.

Ten years on, Green & Fortune remains committed to thoughtful hospitality, great food and memorable experiences — and we’re looking forward to what the next decade brings.
