Putting People First
At Green & Fortune, looking after our people has always been fundamental to how we operate. As part of that ongoing commitment, we have once again raised our starting hourly pay to above the London Living Wage, ensuring our teams are supported ahead of the London Living Wage Foundation’s new rate, which comes into effect in April.
This pay increase was implemented from 1st January, reflecting our belief that waiting for minimum benchmarks is not enough. At a time when rising food costs, increased national insurance contributions and wider economic pressures continue to challenge the hospitality sector, we remain clear that supporting our people must come first.
Backing Our Teams, Even When It’s Hard
Investing in our teams during periods of increased business pressure is not without its challenges, but it is a conscious choice we continue to make. By moving ahead of the standard April uplift, we are reaffirming that we won’t compromise when it comes to employee wellbeing.
As our Managing Director, Sarah Miller, explains: “At Green & Fortune, we know our teams are facing ongoing cost-of-living pressures, and we want to ensure that everyone comes to work without the worry of making ends meet. Investing in our people goes beyond paying a competitive wage. It’s about creating an environment where our teams feel valued, empowered and supported — financially and professionally.”
Investing in Careers, Not Just Jobs
Pay is just one part of how we support our teams. In 2024, we launched Talent Seed, our training and development programme designed to nurture the next generation of hospitality leaders within Green & Fortune.
Through mentorship from senior team members, structured training sessions and clear progression pathways, Talent Seed focuses on long-term career development. Following a successful pilot, more than 20% of participants have already progressed into more senior roles, reinforcing our belief in investing in people with ambition and potential.
A Longstanding Commitment to Support and Opportunity
Our people-first approach is not new. In 2020, we launched Green & Fortune Supports, providing emergency funding, meals, training, mentorship and re-employment opportunities for team members most affected by the pandemic. Since then, we have continued to build meaningful employment pathways through partnerships with organisations including Southwark Works, Step Ahead, Camden Council and Well Grounded, helping to create access to work and experience within hospitality.
These initiatives form part of a wider commitment to wellbeing, engagement and long-term retention — ensuring Green & Fortune remains a place where people can build sustainable careers.
