At Green & Fortune, supporting our people has always been central to how we operate. As part of that commitment, we’re proud to confirm that all current and future Green & Fortune employees will be paid beyond the London Living Wage.
From 1 December 2021, the vast majority of our team will earn more than £12 per hour, significantly above the minimum wage, the London Living Wage and the average rates paid across much of the hospitality sector. This commitment applies across all areas of the business, including our restaurants, bars, cafés, private dining spaces and event venues.
For our restaurant and bar teams, this sits alongside our service charge policy, with 100% of service charge paid directly to staff, and none retained by the company.
Supporting Recruitment, Retention and Stability
This decision reflects our belief that paying well is fundamental to building a sustainable hospitality business. As we continue to rebuild following the pandemic, attracting and retaining great people — and providing stability during uncertain times — remains a priority.
Our Founder and CEO, John Nugent, explains:
“Providing a better than average rate of pay plays a big part in attracting people to the industry and is central to our strategy for recruiting and retaining great talent. We’ve consistently reviewed and improved benefits for our teams over the years, and coming out of the pandemic has only sharpened our focus.
As we rebuild the business, maintaining a strong commitment to our people — how we reward them and how we support them — is more important than ever.”
More Than Just Pay
Pay is one part of a broader approach to employee wellbeing at Green & Fortune. Alongside increased hourly rates, we’ve introduced additional initiatives designed to support work-life balance and long-term engagement. These include long service payments, additional days off and one-off bonus payments for all employees.
This latest commitment builds on the launch of Green & Fortune Supports, introduced in 2020 to help team members most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Building on Green & Fortune Supports
Green & Fortune Supports was created to provide practical help during an unprecedented period for hospitality. Through the programme, team members were offered access to an emergency cash fund, mentorship from senior leaders, additional training and CV support, free weekly meals for them and their families, and opportunities for re-employment.
A significant number of former team members supported through the scheme have since returned to Green & Fortune, reinforcing our belief in investing in people for the long term.
Looking Ahead
As we continue to reopen and rebuild across our venues, this commitment to paying beyond the London Living Wage reflects the values that have shaped Green & Fortune since 2008. We believe that fair pay, stability and meaningful support are essential — not just for our teams, but for the future of hospitality as a whole.
